This is My Moment! (Poem)by ~Silantre

Artisan Crafts / Costumery / Costumes / Cosplay & Role-Playing

This is it,
My moment,
My one single chance to prove myself to the watching eyes.

Years of work, of tears, of sweat,
And as I glide to the front of the stage,
Pressure mounting, music building,
I kneel, as humble as can be,
Like a catterpiller shrinking into it's caccoon.

I feel it,
The rush of adreneline,
The blinding flash of the photographers,
Like the suns' first peeks over the horrizon.

I rise from my shell,
Holding my head high,
Spreading my arms like a proud eagle,
Exposing myself to the world.

Behind the mask tears caress my cheek,
The roar of the applause,
Racing against my own heart!

That was it,
My moment.

Cosplay isn't just about wearing a fun costume to me, or making friends, or the competition. It's all of the above and so much more. The conventions I attend are like a second home to me, allowing me to escape from life.

Untill you've been on that stage, for the whole world to see you will know that no words can describe the true feeling.

The photo to this poem was taken of me on stage the first time I won first place. I had spent about 3 years on the costume on and off, and had always come third or lower before then. Having worked so hard on the costume I put everything i had into that performance. When my name was read out as the winner, I couldn't believe my ears.

After accepting the award I barely made it off stage before collapsing to the floor, crying because I was so happy. It was a good few minuets before I was able to move! Everyone thought I had over-heated and feinted inside the costume XD

Just thought I'd atleast try to share with you guys what cosplay means to me. Though words will never truely capture that moment again. =3

I.Love.It. The poem, the moment, the photograph, your costume. Gah words fail me. I can only imagine the feeling you get on stage. I have always wanted to make a costume or even go to a convention. And this -really- makes me want to finally put my foot down, make me something and go.

I seriously urge you to at least give it a try ^^, even if you don't wear a costume at your first convention I can almost garuntee you'll be swept off your feet by the energy of the event!
